Excellent! In English subtitles generally, a hyphen is used at the start of a person's speech when two different people are speaking on the same sub-title. If it is just one person speaking, no hyphen is used, only the words. Is this the same in German subtitles generally? Do you have any commercial DVDs with German subtitles? I learned this a couple of days ago. I can't remember if the first sub-titles were done like that or not. And thanks for correcting my errors. Some things I just could not hear clearly. Well, I don't know about any common agreements. I used the following rule: When the speaker is speaking from the off, no hyphens. When there is a dialogue or monologue "on screen" I used a hyphen whenever a new person starts to speak. I thought this will communicate to the viewer. [Heimdal] 9:25, 9 October 2006

[edit] Renumbering

You just copy and paste them all into one big file, then load the file into Subtitle Workshop (free online software) and it renumbers them automatically. You then save the file and copy and paste it back into Scienowiki. Simple. Paul 09:02, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Timecodes

There are some long subtitles which have "gaps" at the edges, i.e. maybe 200 milliseconds between when one disappears and the next one appears. Two-tenths of a second may not sound like much time, but if a subtitle is only onscreen for one second it's an extra 20% for the viewer to read it. Paul 10:56, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, I changed a lot of the timecodes and made the time longer the subtitle appears on the screen (carefully trying to avoid they "overlap" into a new screen shot). Where necessary I merged two subtitles into one to give the viewer a better chance to grasp them. However I only reluctantly deleted parts of sentences, so the subtitles now are rather too complete.
